Have you ever wondered what it is like to live in a town with Dr. Panda characters? Come find out in Dr. Panda Town. In this new interactive app, kids can step inside a colorful town and let their own imagination run wild as they play with Dr. Panda and friends.

Explore the Town

Dr. Panda Town is a digital playset, similar to Dr. Panda Farm and Dr. Panda School, where kids can discover various surprises and create their own stories starring their favorite Dr. Panda characters. Because it focuses on creative exploration and storytelling, there is no right or wrong way to play.

When kids open the app, they will see a side-scrolling view of the main street. They can then choose from three major locations: Dr. Panda's house, the supermarket, or the park. Each location is filled with an array of items and interactions. Kids can also add or remove characters from the scene, give their characters objects to hold, and dress them in different outfits. The app remembers each character's clothes and items, even if they are moved between locations. There are 16 diverse characters to choose from, including human boys and girls.

Inside the house, kids can explore different rooms. Starting from the living room, they can move into the kitchen filled with food items to eat and cook They can also go upstairs to get cleaned up in the bathroom, rest in the bedroom, discover treasures in the attic, and have a barbecue at the rooftop garden.

At the supermarket, kids can shop for groceries, buy candies, and hang out at the corner cafe. They can put items, such as veggies and milk, into their basket, and place them on the checkout counter to purchase. They can also withdraw money from the ATM.

At the park, there is also a lot of fun to be had. For example, kids can scoop ice cream at Hoopa's stand (a nod to Dr. Panda Ice Cream Truck), play with the playground toys, have a picnic, feed ducks, and ride a boat around the pond. There is also a nice cafe where you can relax and enjoy the scenery.

Update: New areas available! As of v2.1, kids can visit the police station to put on their police uniform and round up some criminals. They can also go to school, have fun with friends and teachers, and even play the interactive science lab.

Update: as of v1.21, a restaurant area has been added to the town! Kids can visit the kitchen to be a cook or a waiter, head to the seating area to grab a bite, and even get take-outs.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Dr. Panda Town is the first freemium title from Dr. Panda. The initial download lets kids explore Dr. Panda's home for free, with additional locations available separately as in-app purchases (IAPs). Please note that you will need a stable Internet connection to download the newly purchased content. There are no third-party ads in Dr. Panda Town, and all links and IAPs are secured behind a parental gate.

Things I Like

Dr. Panda Town is terrific for kids who love to role play and tell their own stories. There is a lot to see and do throughout the app, so kids have plenty of ideas to build upon. For example, they might look at the treasure chest in the attic and imagine where it comes from. There are no rules or scores to worry about, so kids can play freely.

What I love about the app is that it facilitates both individual and group play. It's perfectly fine for kids to play on their own, but they will benefit from playing alongside a friend or family member who can guide them. For example, you can ask them to put a specific number of apples in the shopping basket, or come up with a scenario for a barbecue party. The app supports multitouch, so more than one person can play on the same device.

Looking at the construction site graphic on the main screen, it looks like the developer is planning to add more locations in the future. It would be great if they also consider adding a night mode and more vehicles to spice up the city. But as it stands, Dr. Panda Town is a great app that I would highly recommend.

Each location has a unique feature, for example, the park has a pond where you can feed ducks and ride boats

Dr. Panda Town is a must-have for kids who love storytelling and any Dr. Panda fan. It offers an expansive, colorful world where they can let their imagination run loose with their favorite Dr. Panda characters. Because there are so many secrets to uncover, they can spend hours and hours just having fun. Highly recommended.
