Many small children are curious about cooking and food. If your child also loves to play the cook, they will love Eric & Bruce BBQ Party. In this colorful game, children ages 3+ will have fun preparing various dishes with Eric and his puppy Bruce. And when the food is ready, they can impress their guests with their cooking.
To start the party, children choose up to 4 guests to be seated at the table. There are 12 possible guests to invite, and each has been adorably illustrated. Selections include your typical boy and girl characters, friendly animals (a cat and a sheep), a chef, a farmer, a detective, a boy in a reindeer costume, the Queen of England, and a suited character who looks a lot like President Obama.
Once the guests have been seated, it is time to cook. Your child can select from 27 ingredients, including many kinds of fruits and vegetables, meat, and seafood. Up to 5 ingredients can be chosen — simply drag the one desired from the fridge and onto the plate.
At the BBQ area, your child can explore different cooking utensils to create up to 5 dishes. For example, they can cut up the ingredients with a knife, make a stew using the pot, use the blender to make juice, make a salad, and prepare hotdogs or burgers. They can also use the grill to cook the ingredients.
Because the app is open-ended, your child can be creative with their recipes. For instance, they might try stewing pineapple together with the fish, or add sliced bananas to their salad. It is all pure fun and play, and your child is free to experiment.
Once your child has finished cooking, it is time to serve. Like real people, each guest has their own preferences and will react differently to the dish given to them. Some guests only eat meat, while others favor vegetarian dishes. If the dish is too spicy, fire might come out of their mouths!
After all 5 dishes have been served, the party is over. Your child can then choose to keep their guests, or replace them with new characters. Either way, they can then restart the cooking process all over again.
Designed for a younger audience, Eric & Bruce BBQ Party is simple and easy to use. There are no complicated rules, so small children can freely explore the app with minimal supervision. The text-free interface allows non-readers to join in on the fun.
It has to be said that gameplay-wise, the app isn’t exactly unique. There are other cooking games with a similar premise, like Dr. Panda’s Restaurant or Toca Kitchen, but Eric & Bruce BBQ Party is made well. The artwork is colorful and childlike, and I have to give the developer extra points for coming up with some interesting character designs. The gameplay is also quite smooth.
Finally, the app is safe for children. There are no in-app purchases or third-party advertisements within the app. All external links are also locked behind a parental gate.
If your child enjoys cooking games, you can’t go wrong with Eric & Bruce BBQ Party.
