Did you know that a water faucet that leaks one drop per second can accumulate up to 165 gallons a month? Did you know that 75% of the electricity used to power home electronics are consumed when the products are turned off?
There are now more people than ever before, who are concerned with our degrading environment and trying to save the planet. People are thinking of ways to go green. Even developers are trying to create apps, such as Save the Planet Kids, that promote green habits in our kids.
Recycling and Energy Saving at Home
The story starts with Ben, who is brushing his teeth before he goes to sleep. Your task is to turn off the water faucet while Ben is brushing to prevent any waste in water usage. Once you’ve completed the task, you can move on to the next activities.
There are six activities that you can perform in Save Your Planet Kids. All activities are related to recycling, energy saving, and how to use home appliances safely. Everything revolves around the house, which makes them easy for kids to relate to.
For example, you can help Amy to turn off her laptop and radio, both of which were left running when she fell asleep. The situation is similar to Alex’s who fell asleep while the TV and air conditioner are still on.
In addition to these energy saving activities, you can play the recycling game where you need to determine which bucket is appropriate for the type of trash: plastic, paper, or can. You can also learn how to use the washing machine safely and remind others when they’re wasting any resources.
Save Your Planet Kids also offers two other activities: the Music Room and the Coloring Pages. In the Music Room, you can tap birds and ducks to make sounds, the musical note to play the background song, and the next icon to change the background song.
In the Coloring Pages, you can paint all the pages from the storyline with 16 different colors. You also get a blank page should you want to draw something from scratch. If you want, you can take a screenshot of your creation with the camera icon.
Parents Need to Know
Even though there are plenty of other green activities that can be added to Save Your Planet Kids, the developer kept it simple with activities that can be performed by kids at home. Kids are introduced to some of the most commonly found recyclable materials, such as glass, paper, and plastic.
They are also encouraged to reduce the energy usage around their home. These include clean water and electricity usage. And, as a bonus, kids also learn how to use the appliances around the house in a safe manner.
Save Your Planet Kids works great without Internet connection. It doesn’t include any third-party ads, in-app purchases, or links to social media.
Things I Like
Because all the activities are performed at home, it’s very easy for kids to relate to them. Most kids would already know how to brush their teeth, watch TV, and sleep with the air conditioner on. Younger kids may have seen their parents or older siblings fall asleep while using their laptops, or talking on the phone while wasting wasting energy or resources.
Now, even the youngest in the family can remind their parents or siblings to save energy. They can be proactive by turning off the TV and air conditioner when they’re not used. These are the kinds of habits that need to be instilled from a very young age.
I also enjoyed the Music Room in Save Your Planet Kids. It’s a fun activity that involves the birds and ducks that appear in the storyline. Make sure that you try holding and dragging your fingers across the animals, and switching between the five original songs.
Save Your Planet Kids is a fun little app designed to introduce the concept of energy conservation and recycling in a way that kids ages 2+ would understand. The activities are easy to relate and perform because they’re parts of our daily routines at home. If you truly care about protecting our environment, this is a great app to introduce a set of green habits to your kids.
