Each July 4th, thousands of people — mostly kids and teenagers — are injured while using consumer fireworks. On July 4th, more fires are reported than on any other day, with 40% of them are caused by fireworks accidents. That’s why in some areas, legal fireworks are banned as local fire departments work to prevent accidental fires. To circumvent this situation, some people who insist on having their own fireworks displays this 4th of July may end up buying fireworks from other areas where they’re still legal.
If you really want to have your own fireworks displays for your kids this weekend, I’d suggest you avoid illegal fireworks and prevent any fireworks accident by playing with Cowly Owl’s latest app: Fireworks Lab. It’s a safe way for kids to enjoy the festivity of a firework display.
Light Up Your iPad
Setting up your own fireworks show using Fireworks Lab is straightforward. You start by selecting any one of the five fireworks slots. Then, you decide which types of fireworks you want to use. Fireworks Lab offers four types of fireworks: rocket, fountain, mortar, and roman candle.
Each fireworks type has their own characteristics. For example, the rocket and mortar can shoot up higher than the fountain and roman candle. If you want to create loud noises, try setting up more mortar fireworks.
As you create your own fireworks, you have access to five coloring patterns. Three of them are solid colors and a couple of them are patterned colors. Mixing them together can create a fun and colorful fireworks display.
When you’re ready, you can tap on the light up icon on the top right corner of the screen. Tap any of the fireworks to trigger them. Optionally, you can tap or swipe anywhere on the screen. Watch how your creation performs, listen to the loud noises, and enjoy the show. If you want to change one or more of your fireworks, simply tap the back button and replace the ones you want with a new creation.
Parents Need to Know
Fireworks Lab offers a great way for kids ages 2+ to enjoy fireworks in a playful and safe environment. With its realistic particle effects and sounds, you’d feel like it’s the real thing. You should definitely turn on the sounds of your iPad to get the real feel of a fireworks show.
Like all other Cowly Owl apps, this one works great in Airplane mode. Fireworks Lab has no third-party advertising, links to social media, or in-app purchases.
Things I Like
Fireworks Lab utilizes the iPad’s ability to sense multi-touch triggers to great effect. Using up to five fingers, you can launch as many fireworks at the same time. The app is also very responsive; the faster you tap the fireworks, the sooner you’ll see them fly through the night sky. You can even tap and hold to keep launching fireworks continuously.
I really like how the app allows you to design your own fireworks. Instead of creating a complete color palette, Fireworks Lab offers only five colors and patterns for you to choose from. It’s much less complex, but you’d still get the variations every time you create a new one. I think that’s a great trade-off: giving players a few options while keeping things simple and fresh each time it’s being replayed.
Fireworks Lab is a great way for you and your kids to play with fireworks in a safe environment. Instead of buying illegal fireworks and getting yourself injured from fireworks accident, Fireworks Lab offers a personalized way of creating your very own fireworks. It’s truly an intuitive, fun, and timely app for this weekend holiday.
