One of the most glorified skills in our modern world of design and technology is the ability to design products, apps, and services with a strong attention to details. Some would even consider having a keen eye for detail as a skill worth developing from one’s early years. Regardless what your kids’ careers will be in the future, this basic life skill can help determine their success in life. I know that many recruiters filter incoming resumes by some forms of demonstration of this skill.
The easiest way to start developing this skill is to start paying attention to our surroundings and routines. Some kids may already show these traits by asking questions when they sense any irregularities in their routines or in the way things are arranged in their rooms.
Another way to help develop a keen eye for detail is by playing spot-the-differences games where they are asked to find the differences between two similar pictures. It’s one of the classic concentration games that kids and adults of all ages can play together. And I’m excited to show you this brand new spot-the-differences game from Toonia Apps called Toonia Differences. It’s a freemium game where you can play with the first five puzzles for free and buy the other theme bundles as an in-app purchase.
Find Eight Differences as Fast as You Can
The game starts with an unlocked bundle of five puzzles that you can choose from. Tap on any of them to start playing. Once both pictures have been loaded, the timer on the top left corner also starts.
Your task is to find eight differences among the two pictures as soon as possible. When you spot a difference, simply tap on one of the pictures. If you get it right, the game will show a small yellow dot on both pictures.
If you manage to find all the differences in under a minute, you will get three stars. If you do it in under two minutes, you will get two stars. Otherwise, you will only get one star for completing the puzzle. Just remember that any mistake you make or any hint you use will make you lose a couple of seconds.
Once you have completed a puzzle, you can move on to the next puzzle or unlock new ones from the other themed bundles.
Parents Need to Know
Toonia Differences is available on the App Store as a free-to-play game. You can play the first five puzzles for free. If you like the game, you can buy the other themed bundle packs as an in-app purchase. The in-app purchase is locked with a simple parental gate, and it won’t even show up if you switch on the Airplane mode. The game has no advertising and no links to social media.
Toonia Differences is suitable for kids ages three or more. It’s a great way to develop their concentration and attention-to-detail skills.
Things I Like
I’ve always loved the nature of spot-the-difference games. The gameplay is, by nature, a cooperative one. You’d gain the maximum enjoyment of playing this type of games when you play it together with family and friends. I had a lot of fun playing it with my five-year-olds. I love games that encourage cooperative play.
Toonia Differences includes a relaxing music as its background. It helps us to focus more on spotting the differences rather than racing against the timer.
I also like how the illustrations are drawn. Using simple graphics and colors, it’s quite amazing how many differences these pictures can have. And because there are so many elements that can differ in a single picture, you can replay the same picture over and over again. The game will choose a slightly different set of eight elements that it will modify each time you replay a picture.
DIY Spot-the-Differences Game
If your kids really love spot-the-differences game, you might want to try this DIY game. I have tried it with my kids and they really love it.
- Choose a background setting for the game. You can start with their own rooms then move on to the other parts of the house. Once you get the hang of it, you can even play this game anywhere you like, even at restaurants.
- Choose a background with several elements that can be moved easily. Then, take a picture of it with your iPhone or iPad.
- Ask your kids to turn the other way, close their eyes, and count to 20. As they are counting, move some things around, change their placements and orientations, add new things, or even put some of them into your pocket.
- Once you’re done, show them the picture you took and have your kids spot the differences.
Toonia Differences is a cute spot-the-differences game that kids ages 3+ can play on their own or with their siblings. If you accompany them during play, you can even make up stories to go with the illustrations. That way, you can see the great replay value offered by the game and be interested in buying a themed bundle or two.
It’s a great freemium game for kids where the in-app purchase is designed well to suit the game. And don’t forget, once you’ve exhausted all the bundles, you can always try the DIY spot-the-differences game that I outlined above.
