In recent years, we’ve seen many great apps made for kids — especially ages 2-5. But, it’s a bit difficult to find great apps for kids outside of this age range, for example one-year-olds or kids older than six years old.
If you have a one-year-old in your family, I may have found the perfect puzzle game for her. Called Sea Puzzle, it’s an underwater puzzle game developed by Pangolin Apps to entertain kids ages 3 and under.
Take a Deep Sea Dive and Slide to Match Columns
You play the game as a cute yellow submarine taking a deep sea dive to the ocean floor. Upon arriving at a particular area, the iPad screen will be divided into five vertical columns with equal widths. Your task is to tap and drag each column so they snap to match their adjacent columns.
Each time you match one or more columns, the fish and other sea creatures that have been fully joined will start to move by themselves. Once you realign all columns, you can enjoy the beautiful underwater illustrations before moving on to the next puzzle.
Sea Puzzle includes 10 scenes that you can play with. Once you have completed the last scene, you will automatically be redirected to the first scene again. Throughout these scenes, you get to meet different kinds of fish and sea creatures, such as octopus, crab, clams, sea horse, and jelly fish. You can even find a mythical sea dragon and a ship inside a bottle.
Parents Need to Know
Sea Puzzle is really simple to play. I’d even argue that it’s simple enough for one-year-olds to play on their own. Granted, if you can accompany them, they will learn more about these sea creatures.
The game works great in Airplane mode. It doesn’t have any ads, in-app purchases, and links to social networks. You can use the game to improve your toddlers’ hand-eye coordination, concentration, and spatial reasoning.
Things I Like
To be honest, I’ve never seen a more intuitive and elegant implementation of puzzles. Dividing the screens into five columns makes the game accessible to younger audience. Having the columns move up and down every few seconds also indicates what the players have to do without the need for text or narration.
I also enjoy the beautiful and cute underwater illustrations in this game. You can use the scenes to introduce your kids to the sea creatures that they may not be familiar with, such as eel, sea horse, and stingray.
Sea Puzzle is a cute and fun puzzle game designed for kids as young as one-year-olds to play on their own. The gameplay is intuitive and the scenes are beautifully illustrated. Playing it together with your toddlers allows you to introduce them to all kinds of sea creatures in a fun way.
