When rainy or cold days keep kids indoors, it can be challenging to keep everyone entertained. If you’re out of ideas, might we suggest origami?
Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding and can be enjoyed by both children and adults. It’s an excellent activity for developing one’s attention span, fine motor skills, and the ability to follow instructions. It’s also very soothing and relaxing.
Origami models vary in complexity, but some are simple enough for kids to make. In the app Easy Origami for Kids from Teacher Tilly, you can find tutorials for unique origami models that you can try at home.
Fold 40 Kinds of Origami Models
Easy Origami for Kids is an instructional app designed to help kids learn how to make origami animals. It’s easy to use — simply follow the step-by-step, high-resolution photo instructions. For the more difficult models, videos are also included.
There are 40 kinds of origami models that you can find in the app, from deep-sea fish to colorful birds. They are presented by themes — sea, land, and air. All of the models unlocked from the beginning so you can start with any one you want.
To help you get started, the app includes printable instructions sheets and origami patterns. You’ll need to email the sheets to yourself but don’t worry — parental permission is required to perform this action.
Parents Need to Know
Before downloading the app, you should know that it has a large file size due to the high-resolution nature of its contents. Once installed, the app takes a little over 800MB on the device. I’d suggest checking how much space you have left on your device before installing the app.
Easy Origami for Kids has no third-party advertising and no in-app purchases. No Internet connection is required to use the app.
Things I Like
Easy Origami for Kids offers an extensive collection of origami projects in one convenient place. The models included in the app are fun and appropriate for kids — some of my favorites are the giraffe and the dolphin. The varying levels of difficulty means there’s something for both beginners and experienced crafters.
Another thing I like about the app is that most of the origami models are “flat”. This makes them easy to store; I just keep them in a pouch or a small box. Alternatively, you can keep them in a ring binder or a photo album.
You can also get creative and use the models you’ve made in other crafts. For example, you can glue them onto a piece of card stock to create a personalized greeting card. You can also string them together to make colorful mobiles.
Easy Origami for Kids is a neat app that teaches kids how to make 40 kinds of origami animals. Step-by-step photo instructions and videos are included, as well as printable origami patterns to help you get started. All in all, it’s a great app that will come in handy during those times you’re stuck in the house with nothing to do.
