Playing dress-up is a favorite amongst kids, and a great way to explore creativity. Over the years, we’ve collected a couple of great dress up games, such as Minnie Fashion Tour HD and Dress Up: Fairy Tales.
Today, we’re adding one more app to the collection: Strawberry Shortcake Berry Beauty Salon. Developed by Cupcake Digital, it’s a sweet app that puts kids in charge of a beauty salon where the Strawberry Shortcake girls are patrons.
Starting from the waiting area, kids select any of the seven characters to sit on the makeover chair. They then provide her with several services: dress-up, manicure, makeup, or hairstyle.
In the dress-up section, they can choose from a wide array of tops, skirt, dresses, leggings, shoes, and bows. On the manicure table, they can buff their character’s nails, then put on a fresh coat of nail polish and stickers. They can give their character a facial and apply makeup, and change her hairstyle and color.
Once finished, each makeover can be saved in the Fashion Diary to access later. It can also be saved to the device’s Camera Roll.
Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Strawberry Shortcake Beauty Salon encourages free-play. Kids can dress their characters any way they like, even allowing them to swap the characters’ dresses and hairstyles. For example, they can make Strawberry Shortcake wear in Orange Blossom’s dress, or put on Blueberry Muffin’s hair on Cherry Jam.
The app is easy to use with minimal help from grown-ups. However, kids must already have good fine motor skills to control some of the makeup tools. I would recommend the app for kids ages four and up.
The app doesn’t have third-party ads or in-app purchases.
Things I Like
Strawberry Shortcake Berry Beauty Salon has plenty of options so kids can explore their creative sides. Kids decide what color to paint their character’s nails, or how to fix her hair. There’s a diverse cast of characters with distinct looks and personality, so kids are bound to find someone they can identify with.
The app is bright and colorful, with lively background music in every scene. It’s also intuitive so kids will be able to navigate their way around without any trouble. One neat feature is the interactive loading screen, which allows kids to pop bubbles as they wait.
Strawberry Shortcake Berry Beauty Salon delivers a fun experience as kids play the role of a beauty artist for their favorite characters. There’s room for creativity with quite a few style options and colors. The replay value lies in filling up the Fashion Diary for each character, and we reckon fans of Strawberry Shortcake will be entertained for quite some time.
