Are you ready for another galactic adventure with Professor Astro Cat? The intrepid explorer returns in a brand new app from Minilab Studios, and he's brought along his band of friends. Together, they want to help kids flex their brain and become a galactic genius. Let's play Galactic Genius with Astro Cat!
Play the Games and Collect Stickers
In Galactic Genius with Astro Cat kids can play six mini games designed to put their memory, speed, logic, and concentration to the test. Each game comes with 50 levels that increase in difficulty. As a reward for completing each level, they earn stickers for their sticker books plus points for increasing their personal rank.
In addition to playing the games in normal mode, kids can also embark on the Daily Dash to earn extra points and stickers. The Daily Dash is a game mode where kids play three random games in a row. It is only available once a day, but parents can make an in-app purchase to unlock an additional Daily Dash per day.
The games in Galactic Genius are unlocked from the start. Kids can play any game at any time, but they must unlock each of the 50 levels sequentially. The games, in no particular order, are:
Set The Scene, in which kids memorize the locations of Astro Cat and friends in a grid within the given time limit then tap to reveal them.
When Planets Align, in which kids observe a line of planets and estimate how they would appear through Astro Mouse's telescope.
UFO Spotter, in which kids find the odd one out of a group of UFOs.
Space Suit Factory, in which kids observe two distinct space suit designs within the given time limit then attempt to reassemble them.
Launch Sequence, in which kids memorize the correct order of button presses on the control panel to start the rocket launch.
Creature Counter, in which kids tap whenever a specified alien pops up on screen.
Parents Need to Know
In Galactic Genius with Astro Cat kids start by creating a user profile so they can earn points and level up their rank. After selecting an avatar from a number of cute cat portraits, they are ready to go. At the moment the app only allows you to create one user profile, but here's to hoping this might change in the future.
Navigating the app is fairly easy, but kids must be able to read to fully understand the games. There is a tutorial at the beginning of each game that teaches kids how to play, but the instructions are given in text format without any voiceovers. Best to accompany your kids if they are not fluent readers.
The app is free to download for iPad and iPhone, and comes with a one-day trial period. Once the trial period is over, you must make an in-app purchase to unlock the full app and continue playing. There are no ads in the app, and all in-app purchases and links that take you outside the app are secured by a parental gate.
Things I Like
Galactic Genius with Astro Cat is a fantastic collection of brain games for ages 6-11 and beyond. Each of the six games is engaging and a great way to boost cognitive abilities. Kids will love exploring the space-themed world while getting some mental exercises. Adults can also join in on the fun; in fact, some games offer quite the challenge as the levels go higher.
As an incentive for playing, kids can collect stickers to put in their sticker books. There is a theme for each book, for example, the space tech stickers feature pictures of satellites, space rovers, space suits, and more. You can also tap on each sticker to bring up fun facts and other interesting bits of information.
If your kids enjoy brain games and anything space-related, Galactic Genius with Astro Cat is the app for them. It's a wonderful collection of games that everyone can enjoy while boosting their cognitive abilities. With 50 levels for each game and an engaging reward system, kids will have a blast playing every day.
