Do your kids love building things? Well then, they can hop on over to the virtual construction site in Build with Grandpa. It's the latest app from the folks over at Fairlady Media, and as the name implies, it lets kids build and play with various construction tools.

Let's Build

Build with Grandpa is a collection of educational activities designed around the construction site. Guided by a friendly Grandpa character, kids can demolish buildings with a wrecking ball, clear the lot using a bulldozer, design a house using blueprints, then choose the right tools for the job. Next, they build the foundation and finish putting up a wall.

Once the house is completed, kids can use their creativity to paint and decorate the house. They can add doors, windows, and even greeneries to brighten up the house. When they're done, they can take a snapshot of the house to display on the bulletin board.

In addition to the activities, kids can also watch real-action videos about building. Each video is narrated by Grandpa, and covers all sorts of topics, for example, what blueprints are for and how to build a wall.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Build with Grandpa is designed for ages 5-9. It's great for boys and girls alike, and can help with an array of skills. For example, in the foundation building game, they solve a word search puzzle to pour in the cement. They also tap into their math skills as they build a wall, by solving single-digit addition problems to combine wooden boards.

Adults can also customize the gameplay to better suit their child's needs and abilities. Simply tap the Settings menu from the main screen, and check the activities you want included in the rotation. You can also toggle the sound on or off from this menu.

As always with Fairlady Media apps, there are no third-party ads or in-app purchases. All external links are secured behind a parental gate.

Things I Like

There are plenty of construction games for kids, but Build with Grandpa is unique because it's one of the few to cover the process of building a house from start to finish. The activities are arranged in a logical structure, for example, the building lot must first be cleared before making the foundation. This teaches kids about planning as well as problem solving.

As ever, Grandpa is a great companion throughout the app. Not only does he provide guidance, he also supplies words of encouragement and praises when kids perform a task well. He even shares his lunch and asks for a high-five in-between the activities.

Conclusion

If your kids love building toys, they will love Build with Grandpa. It's a terrific game that lets kids command their own construction site and unleash their creativity by building their own house. They also learn valuable skills along the way, including planning, problem solving, and reading. The app is gentle, always providing guidance throughout the process, so kids will not feel lost or frustrated. Highly recommended.
