Connect-the-dots games are a great way to help kids learn counting and develop hand-eye coordination. They also serve as a relaxing break time activity for all ages. Don't believe me? Check out Lazy Dots, a colorful connect-the-dots puzzle game for iPhone and iPad.
Connect the Dots, Reveal the Picture
In Lazy Dots, you tap letters or numbers in order to connect the dots and reveal the picture. It's very simple to play, and there is no reading required. As such, it's suitable even for young kids.
When you start the app, you can choose to play with numbers (up to 10, 15, or 20) or letters (A-Z). You can also choose your favorite puzzle from a selection of 50 drawings, which includes dinosaurs, sea creatures, jungle animals, farm dwellers, and more.
As you tap the dots, a cute pet (a frog or a bunny) will follow you to draw lines. Your tap will also be accompanied by funny sound effects, such as beep boops or toot toots. You can customize your pet and sound effects by tapping the ice cream icon from the main screen.
Parents Need to Know
Lazy Dots should be very straightforward to play, but you can turn on hints if necessary. Simply tap the face on the bottom left to change it from a frowning face to a smiley face. Doing so will cause the numbers or letters to glow in order.
The app has no ads, no in-app purchases, and no social media links. It doesn't require Internet access, so it's perfect for playing on the go.
Things I Like
Lazy Dots is terrific for all ages. Young kids can use the game to learn their ABCs and practice counting up to 20, whereas older players can play for leisure. The app practically has no learning curve, and can be played for a short or long amount of time. It's enjoyable but not addictive.
Despite its simplicity, the game is really well made. The interface is clutter-free and quickly gets out of the way when you play. The graphics and sound effects also add to the overall playing experience.
A minor issue I noted is that some dots may overlap each other in smaller pictures. It's not game-breaking per se, but it would be nice if every dot can be seen clearly.
Lazy Dots is suitable for anyone who enjoys drawing or picture puzzles. It's easy to use and relaxing to play without being addictive. Young kids can use the app to practice counting and learn the letters of the alphabet, while adults can benefit from the meditative quality of the game. Recommended!
