Are you confident with your knowledge in geography? How well do you know the countries and flags of the world? In Seterra Geography, you can put your geography knowledge to the test. Based on the popular online and desktop-based world geography map game, the mobile app is now available to entertain and educate learners young and old alike.

Know Your Flags and Countries

Seterra Geography contains over 100 quizzes that cover a wide range of world geography facts. The app is divided into two parts: Maps and Flags. Each part is further divided into smaller sections based on the six continents (except for Antarctica) plus world geography.

Maps covers countries, states, cities, and other geographical features such as oceans, rivers, and mountain ranges. For example, you can find sections for the 50 states in the U.S., cities in South Africa, provinces in China, and so on. Likewise, Flags is not limited to just flags of the countries but also the flags of the U.S. states.

When you select a section, you can also choose between two modes: Learn or Play. In “Learn” mode, you will see a map littered with dots or a screen filled with flags. Tapping on the dot or the flag reveals the name of the country, state, or city associated with it.

In “Play” mode, the process is reversed as you are tasked to identify where locations are on the map or which flags belong to the specified region. You are scored based on the time you need to complete the quiz and the number of questions answered correctly on the first try. The top 10 scores are recorded locally on the leaderboard, thus giving you an incentive to improve or compete with your family or friends.

Parents Need to Know

While Seterra Geography doesn’t have the option to create separate profiles for each player, it does track progress across multiple categories. There is a leaderboard for each challenge, which show the top ten scorers alongside their time and accuracy. Players can also replay a challenge as many times as they like to improve their score.

The app is free of in-app purchases and third-party adverts. It does include options to share the app and send feedback via email, but there are no links to external sites. It doesn’t require an Internet connection so you can take the app with you when you travel. Seterra Geography is available in English, French, German, Spanish, and Swedish.

Things I Like

Memorizing where countries are on the map isn’t exactly exciting, but Seterra Geography makes the task a little less tedious. The learning process is turned into a quiz game with a scoring system and a leaderboard, which motivates the player to improve their results over time. When used in a classroom setting, the app also encourages a little healthy competition between students.

The app itself is very simple, with no bells and whistles to distract from the learning process. While this might not appeal to young kids, it’s excellent for older kids and adults who are looking to improve their geography knowledge. The fact that the app has a wide range of world geography quizzes, makes it great value for money.

One drawback is that the app is not always responsive so sometimes I had to tap a couple of times for the app to register my answer. I would love to see this issue smoothed out so the player will have a better gaming experience. I also wonder if including some trivia about the countries or flags would help players memorize their geography facts.

Conclusion

Seterra Geography is a very nice app. It’s simple to operate, and can be used both at home and in a classroom setting. It also offers a wide range of geography facts, from the U.S. State flags to world rivers. All in all, it’s worth checking out for students and diehard geography buffs alike.
