Many children love building vehicles out of Lego bricks. But when you’re out and about with a small child, lugging around loose pieces of toy bricks on top of your own things can be a hassle. Labo Brick Car provides a virtual sandbox where children can freely build and play with brick cars.

Build Your Own Toy Vehicle

In Labo Brick Car, children build unique vehicles by putting together pieces of colorful bricks like a puzzle. They can select from 36 fun templates, which range from ordinary (ice cream truck, ambulance, F1 car) to bizarre (vehicles with wheels on each side or shaped like animals). Optionally, they can create entirely new designs using various brick styles and car parts.

Once the vehicle has been built, it can be taken for a test drive. Controlling the vehicle is straightforward: tap on the right side of the screen to propel it forward, tap on the left side to move it backward. Children can also tap on the small icon on the side to sound the horn.

In all, the app has 21 driving courses. Each course is fairly lengthy, and may incorporate various scenes and obstacles. For example, children may encounter a spring scenery filled with colorful platforms, or fall into a dark, mysterious cave. Each course can be repeated many times, or exited at any time by tapping the menu on the left.

Parents Need to Know

Made for ages 3-6, Labo Brick Car features an easy-to-use interface. The app has no rules, so children can follow their creative ideas and experiment with different designs. Even though the app is called “Brick Car,” there is no requirement that the design must resemble a car. In fact, it can be shaped like anything so as long as it has wheels to be able to move on the driving course.

Grown-ups might be interested to know that the app allows you to share vehicles with other players, and browse or download vehicles created by others online. This feature is accessible from the main screen, after solving a math problem. Internet access is required to browse, download, or upload vehicles, however it is not necessary in the other parts of the app.

Labo Brick Car contains no third-party advertising and no in-app purchases.

Things I Like

Children who love Lego or Mega Bloks will enjoy Labo Brick Car. This colorful app facilitates their creativity and imagination through the building all sorts of vehicles. While children can follow specific templates, there is enough room for improvisation and experimentation.

The driving part of the app is just as fun. The courses are nicely illustrated and surprisingly complex. There are parts where children must apply logic to figure out a way around an obstacle; for example, sometimes they must track back to activate a trap door before they could continue moving ahead. Other times, they must alternate between driving forward and backward to jump across platforms. Overall, it’s a fresh experience that differentiates the app from similar driving games.

Conclusion

Labo Brick Car is a fun building app that’s also convenient for travel (no need to lug around toy bricks). In it, children exercise their creativity by making all sorts of vehicles and taking them for a test drive through challenging courses. With many templates, car parts, and driving courses, this app will provide hours of excitement for the car-loving child.
