IQ Safari Math gets kids learning basic math operations with endless practice and mini games

Before kids can start learning advanced math concepts, they must first master their math facts and basic concepts. IQ Safari Math is an app designed to help kids learn and revise the four basic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Optimized for kids from preschool up to third grade, it offers numerous exercises with progressive difficulties.

Master the Four Basic Operations

In IQ Safari Math, kids dive into basic math with nine chapters of practice. Starting with simple addition problems, they work their way up all the way through long division problems involving numbers up to ten thousand. The app offers several modes of play: Lessons, Tests, and Mini Games. Additionally, it has a Practice session customized to the player's current level.

Lessons offers multiple-choice problems that increase in difficulty. The chapters are laid out like a map, and each chapter contains anywhere from 10 to 30 sub-levels that are unlocked one at a time. In each level, kids can collect picture cards and earn stars based on their performance.

Tests are great to help kids evaluate their skills. They select any chapter they like, then try to solve as many problems as they can within the time limit. The top three scores, alongside each player's name, are shown on the leaderboard.

The Mini Games section has three games: Treasure Hunting, Bubble Pop, and Memory Cards. Each game has a different theme, but all three require kids to match math problems to their answers. Just like in Tests, each game has a leaderboard that shows the top three scorers.

When kids begin the app, they create an avatar and customize it with various items and accessories. Kids can unlock more items for their avatar using the stars they collect throughout the game.

Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that IQ Safari Math allows you to create a separate profile for every child who uses the app. Then, from the Admin mode, you can view each each individual child's achievement. You can also unlock (or lock) lessons and chapters for each student.

To unlock a certain level, tap the Settings icon on the top left, and select the first icon from the top to go to the user profiles. Tap the lock icon on the top right, and solve the math problem to enter the Admin mode. You can then unlock any level you want by tapping on the small lock icon next to that level.

IQ Safari Math is safe and kid-friendly: it has no ads and no in-app purchases. The app, available in six languages, can be downloaded for iPhone and iPad from the App Store. A trial version is also available, so you can take the app for a spin and see if it fits your needs.

Things I Like

IQ Safari Math is a fantastic resource for parents and teachers who are looking to help their kids get better at the four basic operations. It has numerous practice and test modules with various levels of challenges, plus mini games and achievements that motivate kids to learn.

In addition to the sheer amount of content, the app has a great design. The graphics are colorful and engaging, and it's nice that kids can customize their own avatars. There are small but useful features, such as the drawing board in each lesson that allows kids to write down their calculations. The app is also easy to use overall, though it could benefit from a quick start guide to help parents or teachers find specific features (for example, how to unlock the levels).
