Most children would love a pet of their own, but not every child understands the huge responsibility and commitment required to care for an animal. Before you get your child an animal companion, consider checking out Just One More Pet. Developed by Oceanhouse Media, it’s the latest in their ever-growing catalog of Little Critter apps.

In this interactive book app, the lovable Little Critter finds a lost dog hiding in the bushes. Even though Little Critter already has a lot of pets, he decides to take care of the dog until his owner shows up. When the dog goes missing, Little Critter is worried. Is one more pet more than he could handle?

Like past Little Critter apps, Just One More Pet allows you to read independently or read along with highlighting narration. There’s also an Auto Play mode where the animations on a page are automatically played back along with the narration. The narration is excellent but, if you’d like, you can replace it with your own recording.

While reading, you can tap on the illustrations to learn the names of various objects, such as dog, sister, window, and many others. You can also tap on any word to hear it spoken.

Also included in the app is a find-the-creature game, which challenges you to find the mice and spiders in the illustrations. Even though the game doesn’t keep scores, it’s still a nice game to challenge your concentration.

Safety-wise, you can rest assured because Just One More Pet contains no third-party advertising and no in-app purchases. It does contain external links to the developer’s other apps, but they are secured with a gesture lock.

Excellent reading options make the app suitable for both emerging and independent readers
