Tiny Farm - Animals, Tractors and Adventures! Helps Kids Experience Life on the Farm

Tiny Farm - Animals, Tractors and Adventures! lets you experience what it’s like to live in the farmyard.Tiny Farm - Animals, Tractors and Adventures! lets you experience what it’s like to live in the farmyard.

I’ve never lived on a farm in my entire life. The closest I’ve been to experience life on the countryside was when I worked in rice fields in Bali for four years. That was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever worked in, and I’d love to take my kids there in the near future.

One of the things that I can do for them at the moment is to let them play with Wonderkind’s latest app, called Tiny Farm - Animals, Tractors and Adventures! The app aims to give your kids a brief overview of what it’s like to live in a farmyard, mingling with animals, and operating the tractors.

Explore the Farm Scenes

Tiny Farm has three scenes that you can explore, the first one being the farm itself. There are plenty of things on screen that you can tap to watch it react with a little animation. For example, you can tap the donkey on the bottom right corner to have it kick the nearby apple tree.

All animations can be triggered simultaneously; for example, you can feed the donkey with the haystack from the haystack mover, and help the farmer to plant the beets. Sometimes, you need to interact with an object multiple times in a sequential order to watch the full activity. For example, tapping on the fields in the countryside will trigger a harvest. Tapping it the second time will cause it to be mown, whereas tapping it again will cause the fields to be sowed.

In addition to sowing and harvesting, the second scene in the countryside has fun games such as sliding down from the treehouse into the nearby pond. You can also control the pace of the pony’s ride from walking to trotting.

The goal of this app is for you to discover all the stories happening around the farm. For example, in the barn scene, you can discover the different haircuts you can give the sheep, or mix paint to have the eggs dyed in your favorite color.

Parents Need to Know

Tiny Farm - Animals, Tractors and Adventures! requires iOS 8 to install and play. I don’t quite understand why the developers made iOS 8 a requirement, but it’s quite difficult for owners of older iPads to justify the upgrade. I wish the developers would build the app against iOS 7 instead to let more people install the app on older iPads.

But if you already updated to iOS 8, Tiny Farm is suitable for kids ages 2+ who want to know more about the farmyard and countryside living. It works great in Airplane mode, and it doesn’t have any in-app purchases, links to social networks, or advertising.

Things I Like

If you tap on the sun in the first scene, you can see what nighttime is like in the farmyard. As always, tap everything and find out what’s happening inside the old homestead at night.

Tiny Farm is all about finding the hidden details on each scene. Sometimes, you can even see connected little stories among the different scenes. For example, you might notice how the sheep and pig are such close friends, always playing with each other.

Inside the barn, you can feed all the different animals, try different haircuts for the sheep, and even paint the egg colors the way you want.Inside the barn, you can feed all the different animals, try different haircuts for the sheep, and even paint the egg colors the way you want.

Conclusion

Tiny Farm - Animals, Tractors and Adventures! is a fun little app for kids ages 2+ to explore what it’s like to live in the farmyard. Kids can play with the animals and different activities in the countryside. As a bonus, they can also learn how to mix the basic colors to yield your favorite color.
