Many kids love adventure stories, especially magical adventure fiction ones. They enjoy the excitement, drama, and suspense that comes with each adventure. The more magical the story, the more engaging it is to follow.

If you and your kids love adventure stories, you’re going to love this new magical adventure fiction of Storm & Skye and The Secret of the Car Wash. It’s an audiobook accompanied by stunning illustrations and light animations, which allows for an immersive listening experience.

The Secret of the Car Wash

The story starts with Storm and his Mom stopping by Walt’s Car Wash on their way home from shopping. To keep Storm from getting bored, his Mom explained that a set of gigantic scrubs, machine washers, and ruthless dryers would be waiting for them. They would need to stay where they were and keep the windows closed.

As Storm listened to his Mom’s explanation, he had a picture of monsters waiting for them inside the car wash. It was at this time that Storm saw a skinny boy with brown spiky hair running around between the machines, and a knight on his horse.

Surprised by what he saw, Storm asked his Mom to ask the car wash owner, the cigar-smoking Uncle Walt. He said that it was impossible, but Storm couldn’t believe him. As soon as they arrived home, he headed back for the car wash on his bike.

The car wash was already closed by the time he got there. He was about to go home when he found a red door on the side of the building. As he held the door handle, the red door opened from the inside — another seven-year-old named Skye had been pushing it.

The two then sneaked into the car wash, and what Storm earlier became real. They also saw a green dragon sitting on top of a high machine.

Was it real? How were they going to escape the angry-looking dragon? Why were they inside the car wash in the first place? Who is Skye really?

Parents Need to Know

This app is not a storybook, rather it’s an illustrated audiobook. There is no text to read on screen. The interactive experience only appears once the narration for the chapter has finished. If you want to bring up the menu, you need to tap the screen once. The menu options let you to go to the next or previous chapter, restart the current chapter, or go to the home screen.

The entire audiobook is 45 minutes long. It is divided into nine chapters, approximately five minutes each, to make it more manageable to listen to.

Since the audiobook doesn’t include any text, it may be more suitable for native English speakers ages five and up. I’d strongly suggest you give your child a pair of headphones so they can be fully immersed in the story.

Things I Like

The beautiful storytelling, in addition to the stunning illustrations, is the app’s main strength. The narration is vivid and done professionally. The app uses light animation (slowly zooming in and out) to create suspense and provide a truly immersive experience. It also has a beautiful music score.

As any good story, The Secret of the Car Wash has its own fair share of life lessons that readers can learn from. As Storm faces the green dragon, he remembered his Dad’s words:

“When you’re afraid to do something, that’s when you should do it anyway. And if you ever come across a monster, you have to laugh at it really hard.”
