Little Star is a cute, interactive storybook app that makes story time more fun for both parents and juniors.
Kitten, Croc, Bunny, Little Blue and Calf are classmates on a camping trip. At night, the camping ground comes alive with many twinkling stars. Smitten by the sight, the five friends then decide to bring the stars down.
Little Star introduces the concept of problem solving and teamwork. While reading the story, you follow the innocent cast as they realize their own shortcomings and decide that working together is the best way to achieve their goal.
As an interactive storybook, you can also explore the book and manipulate many elements in the story by tapping, smearing, rotating and tilting the device. In addition, there is also a simple mini game about collecting stars in a jar featuring the characters in the book. This would make a great activity once you have finished the story.
Things I Like
A simple but meaningful story, Little Star delivers a positive message about friendship and teamwork. I like how each character is special in his or her own way. I do wonder why the squirrel is named "Kitten" and the giraffe is named "Calf", though.
I also love how Little Star encourages the readers to immerse themselves in the story through many hidden surprises spanning 30 pages of gorgeous illustration. I think of it as a mini treasure hunt.
Finally, my suggestion for the app is to include a professional voiceover or at least the option to record your own voice to narrate the story. This way, younger juniors can still enjoy the book when the adults are not able to read it to them.
Little Star is a delightful app that parents and juniors would enjoy. The gorgeous illustration, cute characters, fun interactivity and good message set it apart and make it a great addition to story time. If you're looking for a way to teach your juniors about teamwork, I highly recommend this app.
